He success led his country through it greatest internalcrisis, the American civil war,preserving the union and ending slavery. Before his election in 1860 as the first republican president, Lincoln had been a country lawyer and Illinois state legistator. He born on febrary 12 of 1809 ,their parents was Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks , two farmers in southeast hardin country, kentucky.
